Adoption

I'm adopted and a friend of mine told me that it is wrong for me to accept Communion, because I am not in full unity with the Church because I don't know whether or not my biological parents were Catholics. Is this true?

I am Catholic but I want to know why do we have statues in our church? Wouldn't it be idolatry to pray for another person other than God?

I am doing a report about adoption and I was wondering what the Catholic Church's standing is (is it okay to adopt?). I appreciate any information you can give me!
