1 Timothy 3:2 says, "a bishop...must be married only once..." So, the answer is yes. A longstanding tradition in the Roman Catholic Church, recently affirmed by Pope John Paul II, is that priests are to be celibate. Since our bishops are taken from the priestly ranks, we aren't likely to have any who are currently married, though they might have been (and widowed) before ordination, I suppose. |
