First piece of advice: Don't fight!

Second piece of advice: Mary herself points to Jesus, so there's nothing to fight about there either. It's most excellent to pray directly to Jesus. When you pray to Mary, it's called "intercessory" prayer. We are actually asking Mary to intercede (act as a go-between) between us and God. It's not necessary, but it can be comforting. This is a normal human behavior and why wouldn't God allow us to act "normal" in our prayer--get someone to "be on our side."

So--the Bible doesn't say we SHOULD pray to Mary. Catholics just don't think it says we shouldn't either! In fact, at the wedding in Cana, Mary was a biblical intercessor. She was told that the hosts had run out of wine; she asked Jesus. That's in the bible and that's how we're acting when we pray through Mary.
