Loss of faith

Q A very special friend of mine had a cousin who overdosed on heroin. The young man was revived at the hospital, only to be forced to live by machines. My friend stayed by his cousin's bedside. A preacher visited the young man. He prayed with him. The preacher proceeded to tell my friend that his cousin had been healed. My friend was very excited. Two days later the young man died. My friend was so upset. He began drinking excessively. He started denouncing his faith in God. He said he no longer believed in God. He felt as if he was lied to by the preacher. I don't know what to say to him but it kills me inside to hear him say he doesn't think God is real and he doesn't believe in him any longer. How can I help him?

The best - and probably the only - thing you can do for your friend is pray for him and be present to Him.  Unfortunately he fell victim to a type of religion that does much more harm than good.  The witness of your life lived in Christ and above all the power of God Himself will be your friend's path back to faith.  Be patient and don't give up and don't judge him!
