Marry a Mormon?

Q I love my boyfriend a lot and we are talking about getting married, but I am Catholic and my boyfriend is Morman. He wants to get married in the temple and I want to get married in the church. Can a Morman and a Catholic get married in front of God's eyes?
- Wendy

A

Dear Wendy,

I'm pretty sure that only two Mormons can be married in the actual Temple in Salt Lake City, but you probably mean in a service approved by the Mormons at some location where they have marriage ceremonies. God's eyes see all, especially hearts. While you can and may marry a Mormon and can even marry them in a Catholic ceremony, I assure you it will be difficult for both of you to practice your faith. I would like to point you to the October 2003 issue of St. Anthony Messsenger. In the print edition is an article about a Mormon-Catholic couple, the challenges they have faced and the ways in which they are strong. You and your boyfriend would find it a good tool for discussion.
