You are! You're in love with God; God's in love with you. Then there's your folks, your brothers and sisters perhaps....
But I suspect you're speaking of boy-girl love, aren't you? And I'm going to respond from what I like to call a "disciple" perspective. You can tell you're in love, when you wish--and try to help achieve--the best for another. If you have the spiritual energy to sustain that kind of attitude, you're really in love.
As for being in love--the head-over-heels variety--you'll find that kind of love distracting in a delightful way. It's hard to concentrate on anything else. You can see that this can be wonderful, but also make it hard to get one's homework done! So, if you're finding the rest of life challenging but you aren't unhappy, you just might be in love. Will it last? Not unless it turns into the kind of love I described as "disciple love." |
