Anglicans and Catholics

Q I've heard that Anglicans, or Episcopalians, share much in common with Catholics. However, I know that they are a little bit different: they have a different governing body, their priests can marry, they believe that communion is symbolic of, but not the actual Body and Blood of Christ, they don't put as strong belief in confession as we do, and they put different levels of emphasis on different things. However, I'd like to know if there is anything that really is drastically different between us. Why don't we consider them Catholics if we have so much in common?

A

While it is true that there are many similarities between Anglicans (Episcopalians) and Catholics there are still serious differences .  The most obvious would be recognition of the Pope as head of the Church.  Acceptance of the Bishop of Rome as Universal Pastor is essential for anyone to be considered Catholic.
