If you're over 14, you are bound by the penance of not eating meat or foods prepared with meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. This is called abstinence.
Abstinence is also used to indicate that you have chosen (according to the commandments and the law of the Church) not to have sex outside of marriage--or even inside marriage for reasons best known to the couple alone. |
