Can it honestly be said that the Church is anti-Semitic? |

| A |
I would say, "No." The Church has BEEN antisemitic, in its written words and in its actions. Rome itself had a Jewish ghetto. Pope John Paul II's best friend was Jewish, however, and he did very much during his papacy to expunge any/every policy and historical action that was against the Jews. He apologized, he changed, he reached out. I see the new pope following in his footsteps. The Church is made of human beings and is subject to error. We have done wrong. We continue to ask forgiveness. And, we work for reconciliation with our Jewish brothers and sisters. |
