Sorcery and the occult are dark magic and you're right to be wary of them. I'm pretty sure, though, that you don't mean Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie (or is it Genie?) , for instance!
The rock-bottom issue here is one of shaping your own imagination in a positive and healthy way. While some would disagree with me (and this shows how difficult it is decide this for anyone but oneself), I find Harry Potter quite inspiring and see the love of his parents and the value of friendship in escaping danger to be quite inspiring themes in that series. I think some people play Dungeons and Dragons without harm to their psyches as well. But, to take on an evil persona for a long time and to act out of it could warp many a conscience and I'm given to understand that this could be part of playing D & D. If that were necessarily evil, though, all films and TV shows with "bad guys" would cause crises of consciences for the actors and actresses, don't you think?
Test yourself. Do you enjoy these games and media without thinking you want to be a practioner of evil magic yourself? Probably. That's a key question. Ask it of yourself and you will develop with a mature, healthy conscience able to resist evil and do good. |
