You are certainly focused on sex--and it's hard not to be, when you have all these hormones raging. You ask me not to tell you to stay away from situations that stimulate you sexually--because you're in a coed school. The opposite sex is an immediate stimulus and you can't stay home! Ah, what a problem indeed!
So what can I say? You can not avoid temptation, but you can counter it by tiring your body with physical exercise (and I don't mean the masturbation which you are attempting to avoid), by tiring your mind with a focus on non-sexual studies, such as geometry and the like and your spirit by turning this problem over to God again and again--it sounds as though that alone could keep you busy for hours! By turning it over, I mean this: When the urge to masturbate strikes, pray: God, I am counseled against allowing sex and sexual pleasure to overshadow everything else. Still it often seems to. Help me. You gave me this body and all its urges, desires and feelings. They take me where you say I should not go. I want to discipline my body; I want to love you; I want to be Catholic. Help me; I can't do it alone.
St. Paul had struggles with who knows what, but he did not despair. I do what I don't want to do, he said. Well, there you have it....you won't always be victorious, but you can keep trying. I will join you in prayer to get past this singleminded preoccupation! |
