Q I'm a college student and I want to be a teacher someday. I feel a strong call to teach religion in Catholic schools, and I love my faith and try to practice it as well as I can. I follow all the teachings of the Church. But there's one problem...I'm a lesbian, and I can't change the fact that I'm attracted to women even if I want to. Can I still be a Catholic school teacher?

A

Merely being attracted to women wouldn’t keep you from teaching at a Catholic school.  It is what you chose to do with that fact that will make the difference.  When one teaches in a Catholic school it is expected that one will be living one’s life in accord with the Church’s moral teaching.

I congratulate you for taking your faith seriously and for having the desire to teach in a Catholic school.  I would invite you to keep asking the Lord’s help to live your faith ever more fully.
