Anger

Q One of my best friends recently decided not to be friends with me anymore. She never said a word to me about it and I never even knew anything was wrong. We have a lot of the same friends and I have to see her everyday. I'm really angry and confused about what I should do. I can't forgive her for doing this to me but how can I move on?

Dear Confused,

I can understand that you were very surprised and stunned by your friend's actions.  Of course, you're hurt and angry but I invite you to forgive (which is different from approving of her actions!) and move on.  The anger that you carry inside of you is hurting you but it's not causing her to lose much sleep.  You have learned a hard and difficult lesson about friendship but don't let it make you bitter.  Our task as Christians is to absorb anger and not cultivate it, grow it or repeat it.  The easiest way to move on is to let go of that terribly difficult burden that you have chosen to carry - anger!
