Am I faithful to my ancestry?

Q I have a Scottish backround.  Scottish people are generally Protestant.  Should I stay Catholic, or convert?

A

I'm speculating that your parents are Catholic. Protestantism began hundreds and hundreds of years after the Acts of the Apostles were written and the beginnings of the Church were described. Now, some critics will say that we Roman Catholics are not the ones who have held fast since the beginning, but we believe that we have been faithful. Why would you convert when many, many generations of Scots were Catholic before they were otherwise?

May I also speak to your thinking on this matter? You sign yourself "the only one," but I'll wager that there are Scottish Buddhists who do not feel unlinked to their past, but believe that they are true to the deepest aspects of being a Scot. Surely it's deeper than wearing plaid kilts and not being Catholic, don't you think? And you're probably not planning to wear a plaid kilt and play the bagpipes!
