Jerad at Summer Day Camp
[ARTICLE_IMAGE]For a week last summer, Jerad was a youth volunteer at a summer day camp held in an inner city neighborhood. Jerad worked with approximately 60 children to assist them with socialization, skill development, and positive play.

The day consisted of crafts, games, and class sessions focusing upon self esteem and positive values within an Afro-centric perspective. Each youth volunteer, including Jerad, was assigned to work with a small group of children to assist them with group discussions, crafts, and other activities.

Upon returning home, Jerad's experience motivated him to lead a local parish/community service project where school supplies for children were collected and then donated to the children at Jerad's work site.

Jerad sums up his experience this way: "Knowing that I might have made just one of those children's days just a little brighter is a feeling like none other. It is definitely not a feeling I could have felt from sitting in the comfort of my home on the couch all day. It is powerful to know that I can make all of the difference in the world to someone else."
