World AIDS Day 2008
Posted @ 4:01 AM :: 234 Views :: 0 Comments

AIDS. Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. It is known as the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time. Every day 6,000 children lose a parent to AIDS. Every day 1400 children under 15 die of AIDS. Every day at least 2 teens an hour are infected with HIV.

December 1st marked the 20th annual observance of World AIDS Day and the beginning of AIDS Awareness Month. The World AIDS Day campaign, “Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise” continues with this year’s theme of Leadership.

AIDS awareness has increased. Abstinence and safer-sex programs are everywhere. HIV care has become a higher priority. But people are still dying! Why? HIV/AIDS care is continues to be poorly funded. When funding is sufficient, programs are often poorly implemented. What can make the difference? Leadership.

The best advances in HIV/AIDS response have come when leaders come together from every corner of life to push for needed change. Leaders within families, schools, faith communities, industry, and government. It takes everybody! The most effective change comes about when a group of ordinary people step forward to challenge the status quo.

Here’s your chance! Learn more about HIV/AIDS. Learn what you can do to help those living with the disease. And learn what can be done to stop the spread of this global killer. Then, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Be the difference! Be the change!
