Ten Things You Can Do NOW to Support Vocations
Posted @ 2:26 AM :: 223 Views :: 2 Comments ::

1. Attend Eucharistic devotion and offer your time for an opening of hearts to God's call to priesthood, consecrated life and lay ministry within the Church.

2. Commit to pray for vocations each month in 2008.

3. Pray the rosary for vocations.

4. Fast once a week from something you REALLY LOVE - tv, music, myspace, youtube, energy drinks, whatever -  and offer your sacrifice as a prayer for those discerning a vocation to priesthood and consecrated life.

5. Invite a priest or religious to dinner - or at least for a latte at Starbucks. Find out what their lives are really like. Then, be an ambassador for vocations. Let your friends know what you learned.

6. Adopt a seminarian - through your diocese or if you live in an area that has a seminary through the seminary. Pray for him. Invite him to join your family for dinner or family celebrations. As a family, send cards of support and encouragement as he prepares for a life of service to the Church.

7. Pray for vocations as you return to your seat after taking Communion. In this moment, when you are most connected with Jesus, ask him to strengthen those who feel called to ministry within the Church but have not yet answered "yes."

8. Celebrate Priest and Religious Appreciation Day early and often this year. Do something to let the priests, brothers, sisters, and lay people who are serving the Church know what a difference they are making in your life and the lives of those around you. It's a good way to rekindle the passion they feel for their own vocation and their joy is the best way to draw others into ministerial life.

9. Go to church!

10. Take a deep breath. Now, consider....maybe, just maybe...God is calling you.
