Definition: Armageddon
Mentioned only once in Scripture (Revelation 16:16), Armageddon conjures images of a final battle between good and evil preceding the end of the world.
This passage refers to an area around the ancient Israelite city of Megiddo which was situated on the great highway between Egypt and Damascus. Once a fortress city of King Solomon, Megiddo was the scene of countless battles dating back some 6,000 years. Because it was such a strategic battlefield, the author of Revelation sees Armageddon as the best way to symbolize the final defeat of evil.
