| One aspect of Mary's life that is being appreciated anew today, celebrated as a feast on September 15, is her suffering. The poor, especially in Latin America, find in her one who walks with them: as a refugee, as a mother of a son who was unjustly murdered, as a widow. The Gospels give ample record of the suffering Mary endured: Jesus' birth in a stable, the flight to Egypt to escape persecution by Herod, the loss of Jesus in the Temple, to name a few. |
