Definition: Human Sexuality
Formally titled "Human Sexuality: A Catholic Perspective for Education and Lifelong Learning," this 1990 U. S. bishops' document was written primarily to provide sound Christian guidelines for sexuality education.
It reminds us that according to the Book of Genesis, God created all human beings—male and female—in the divine image and that God saw this man and woman as indeed very good. It reminds us that human sexual intercourse is part of a marital commitment and, as such, is an action inscribed by the Creator with a twofold meaning: unity between a husband and wife and procreation (childbearing).
